 The Bunkhouse, situated in the basement of  the historic St James Church, offers overnight accommodation for those walking the Raad ny Foillan,  with the unique opportunity to take an extra day to hike to the remote hermits cell at Lhagg ny Killey, before continuing on your way. It's ideally suited for anyone exploring the West Coast of the Island by car, on bike or by foot. 
" After a beautiful walk from Castletown to Dalby, via Dawlish Cashen to visit Gef, this was the most perfect place to stay. Congrats to the good people of Dalby for establishing such a genuine community resource. The world needs more places like this , especially in historic buildings. Information in brief :​
  • We sleep up to 4 people.
  • We have one double sofa bed and 2 single comfy box-beds ...... 

  • We only take one group at a time, you have sole residency from 6pm-10am* 
  • The cost is  £40 for a single person and £35 per person per night  for a group booking.                                         *If you  are staying for more than one night and would like to have exclusive use of the premises during the day as well, please mention this when you contact us .
The Bunkhouse offers:
  • A large open plan bed/living room which is light and cosy with a wood burning stove, equipped with comfortable chairs, a double sofa bed and two single box beds. Duvets, pillows, bed linen and towels are provided along with a  starter basket of logs!
  • It has a fully equipped kitchenette, with table & chairs, a sink, fridge, mircowave, Induction Hob, Air Fryer, kettle, toaster, cooking utensils, cutlery & crockery. Tea towels, and basic essentials like Fairtrade tea & coffee, sugar, salt, milk, washing up liquid etc. are provided
  •  There is a toilet with hand basin and wet area. And an additional small shower room with heated towel rail.

        About Us :

  • The Bunkhouse, overlooks the sea and the far distant Mountains of Mourn. It's strategically placed for stunning sunsets! It was originally the schoolmasters house, built into the lower elevation of the historic church and schoolrooms at Dalby. 

  • We have separate access from the church and schoolrooms on the South side of the building

  • And there's a little wildlife/flower garden, with a bench seat and table & seats in more sheltered corners, but still with sea views. 

  • We're a Fairtrade, Eco Friendly Community who've  worked together over many years to help renovate and maintain the unique and much loved historic building of St James Church & Schoolrooms. We love to share our corner of the world with those who seek out special places. 
 
  • This is a community led, not for profit initiative, part supported by the Isle of Man Lottery Foundation.
 
  • All proceeds after running costs go to the ongoing maintenance and restoration of the building. 
 
  • We've also been awarded a Silver Eco Church Award & are working together to reduce our carbon footprint : so we encourage you to recycle where-ever possible using the bins provided at the front of the church.  All The Bunkhouse lights are LED; some are movement sensitive so automatically switch off. The wood burning stove uses locally sourced timber cut & dried in Dalby. 

  • We provide you with an initial supply of wood for the stove; additional wood can be bought from the shop or local garages.
                                                                       
  • We're a  ‘WiFi free zone’,  ( though 4G is good here)  TV is available on request.

  • Basic stores are also provided. Self catering breakfast and evening meals, plus any provisions for the day, can be ordered in advance or bought from our small village shop.  ( please click here for more details )  So, if you're walking the Raad ny Foillan you don't have to carry a sack of stuff with you.

  • The Niarbyl Cafe is just ten minutes walk away ..... with stunning views, good food and is a licensed Restaurant.                                NB > sadly this is currently closed for renovation; see above for details of supplies available, or, the Peel Fisheries Chippy are excellent and now deliver to Dalby !

  • We welcome assistance Dogs 
  • PS> Wet weather days, there's even a table-tennis table available!                           
     *The Hub Bunkhouse is a multi purpose building. For overnight visits or short staycations it is available for private use from 6pm – 10am only.  You are very welcome to continue to use the Bunkhouse during the day but from 10 am - 6 pm the space is also available to the general public as a local history exhibition, the front lobby is used to access our small Village Shop.                                                                                                                                                                                                      If you would like to have exclusive use throughout the day we can arrange this for an additional £10 per day.
