"Our Roots" is the first phase of a two part exhibition: " Our Roots & Our Story " put together by the people of Dalby to reflect the life, the landscape, and the people of this place . This Hub exhibition is the story of life in the village when the church and school were first commissioned . With photos and articles from old tourist guides from the 1800's through to the beginning of the 19th Century, depicting life as it was for the people who lived in this beautiful but remote part of the Island. The story boards depict : The Village Shop Dalby Bay & Dalby Village The Social Life of the Village & the Ballacallin The Rural Postman Crofts & Cottages Niarbyl Bay Florrie Ford & the Niarbyl café Fishing & Boats Gef the Mongoose The Radar Station Farming The exhibition continues in the church with boards on: St James Church & Dalby Chapel St James Church school Lhag ny Killey & Celtic Christianity ( still to be completed) The 2nd phase of the exhibition “ Our Story” is still in the planning stage .... to be exhibited at a later stage in the schoolrooms, telling our own story and depicting the life and memories of people of the village. |
